About Our Brewery

Chalk Hill Brewery was formed in 1993 by Bill Thomas, Tiny Little and David Blake – a group of friends with a shared interest in sailing, and beer. It now stands as the longest running independent brewery in Norwich!

The brewery was named after the surrounding area which was previously known as Chalk Hill, and is now Rosary Road.  The brewery is a custom built 15 barrel plant and brews a selection of permanent and seasonal real ales. The brewery supplies it’s beer to local pubs including The Coach and Horses which is on the same site as the brewery.

Chalk Hill Brewery offers free brewery tours on request.

The head brewer Rob provides a guided tour of the brewery offering information about the brewing process and reveals how we make the award winning Chalk Hill ales. The tour lasts for 45 minutes and ends with samples of the Chalk Hill ales.

Please contact us here or phone us on 01603 477077 for more information or to book a brewery tour.

Head Brewer - Rob

Rob began his brewing career at the Coach and Horses, the pub on the same site as the brewery. Rob worked on the bar but always had a keen eye for beers and an interest in the brewing process. When offered the chance to get trained up by our previous head brewer Robbie and master brewer Dave Winters (Winters brewery) Rob gladly took it; and here he is now 2 years later as the head brewer. Rob has created several of his own brews since starting, including a Super Smash Brews Melon pale and a pumpkin spice ale for Halloween. His favourite beer to brew is Mustard IPA which is also his favourite Chalk Hill Brewery beer to drink!

When not working Rob often spends his time sampling his own beers in the pub, riding his mountain bike or air gun shooting.
